HOME OWNERSHIP IS WORTH THE JOURNEY
You will be considered for a Habitat home if your present housing is not adequate and if you are unable to obtain adequate housing through other conventional means.
Since you will actually be buying your home from Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity; you must demonstrate your ability to pay the monthly mortgage payment. You will need 6 months of steady employment. Bankruptcy must be fully discharged for two years.
You must be able to pay approximately $3,500 for the closing costs associated with your home. You must begin saving money each month to pay these costs. This money must be paid before you can move into your home.
Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity builds homes for families earning 30-50% of median income, based on the Regional Income Limits, which can be found at www.nj.gov.
If you are selected, you become a “Partner Family” in the Habitat program. To become a “Partner Family”, you will be required to work 350 SWEAT EQUITY hours with Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity. 200 of the total 350 hours must be done on the construction job site by the applicant. The remaining hours can be completed on other Habitat projects. All hours must be completed before you can move into your Habitat home.
