Habitat for Humanity dedicates its 49th Home in Gloucester County
Glassboro, NJ. (August 11, 2021) – On Tuesday, August 17th at 4pm, Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) will give the Watson Family the keys to their new home, located at 602 Pershing Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Thanks to the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, the Pershing Street project will now become a home for Aisha, a single mom, of 2 teenage boys.
“Working with Habitat for Humanity is one of the most rewarding parts of leading the Board of Commissioners. The positive changes that we see with the families as they move into the Habitat house in Gloucester County and how it’s changed their lives has been tremendous,” said Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger. “Welcome to Glassboro, Aisha Watson, we can’t wait to welcome you to the county!”
In partnership with GCHFH, Aisha, her sons and the volunteers helped build her new, 1,200 sq. ft., Energy Star certified home. The family put in 350 volunteer hours (sweat equity) in conjunction with taking financial classes where they also learned about budgeting.
“Gloucester County has provided more than $1.2 million in federal HOME funding into new builds and rehabilitation projects over the last decade. Habitat for Humanity reinvests the sales proceeds of completed homes into new projects such as this one, making the dream of home ownership possible for more families every year.” added Gloucester County Commissioner, Heather Simmons.
Since our founding, GCHFH continues to uplift people struggling with a need for decent and affordable housing through the collective help of the volunteers, donors, and sponsors who contributed to building homes. Today, more than 49 families are experiencing stability that leads to improved health, stronger childhood development, and increased financial independence.
