48th Home Dedication in Gloucester County

May 21, 2021

Habitat for Humanity dedicates its 48th Home Dedication in Gloucester County

Glassboro, NJ. (April 30, 2021) – On Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 4pm, Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) will give the Peters Family the keys to their new home, located at 311 Cleveland Ave., Glassboro, NJ 08028.

Thanks to the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, the Cleveland Avenue project will now become a home for Lara, a single mom, who works in the emergency room in a local hospital.

“The partnership between Gloucester County and the Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity is critical to provide families with the ability to reach the American dream. On behalf of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, welcome to Gloucester County,” said Gloucester County Board of Commissioners Director, Robert M. Damminger.

In partnership with GCHFH, Lara and the volunteers helped build her new, 1,400 sq. ft., Energy Star certified home. Lara put in 350 volunteer hours (sweat equity) in conjunction with taking financial classes where she also learned about budgeting. “All of our Habitat families go through a rigorous financial education course and must invest sweat equity into the building of their home,” said Gloucester County Commissioner Heather Simmons.

“South Jersey Federal Credit Union is proud to support Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity in its mission to provide quality housing to those in need,” said Ernest Huggard, President and Chief Executive Officer of South Jersey Federal Credit Union. “As the financing agency for this home and Whole House sponsor of Habitat’s upcoming golf outing, we’re happy to do our part to help local families achieve the goal of affordable homeownership.”

Since our founding, GCHFH continues to uplift people struggling with a need for decent and affordable housing through the collective help of the volunteers, donors, and sponsors who contributed to building homes. Today, more than 49 families are experiencing stability that leads to improved health, stronger childhood development, and increased financial independence.
