Brief info

The Business/Technology Interface, LLC

Dick Woodward is a retired executive who spent his career in the biomedical industry. After earning a Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology, Dick was an industrial research scientist before moving into the business side of the bio-pharmaceutical industry. He has held managerial and executive positions in sales, marketing and business development at Pharmacia, Ajinomoto, Quality Biotech, Neutalbe Biopharmaceutical Corporation and DSM Pharma Chemicals; he was also Vice President, Preclinical Development of Polymerix Corporation, a polymer-based bio-materials company that he helped found. His most recent positions before retirement were as COO and CEO of two medical device companies that he co-founded. In his consulting practice, he has provided advisory services to over two dozen companies ranging from early-stage start-ups to major multi-nationals. He also serves as a judge at the annual Angel Venture Fair held in Philadelphia. Dick has been married to Karen for over 40 years; they have two grown daughters. In his spare time, Dick enjoys golf, fishing, reading and woodworking. He can occasionally be found masquerading as a carpenter on Habitat for Humanity build sites.

Dick has been a volunteer for Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity since 2007, and a Board member since about 2009. When asked his thoughts about Habitat, he replied “I always thought that Habitat would do something fun to do when I retired; however, after my 4th emergency airline landing, I realized that retirement was a long way away, and I might not get there – so I volunteered for Habitat. I truly believe in the concept of helping people up and allowing them to earn their homes – it builds a level of self-reliance that handouts just do not accomplish. Besides, I like to build things, whether companies or houses. I don’t swing a hammer on job sites as frequently as I used to, but as a Board member I work in the background to help advance the mission.”

Why Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity?
I have been a Habitat volunteer since February 2007, and after my first (of 3) retirements I was invited to join the Board, where I am currently the Secretary. I started to volunteer with Habitat because I enjoy building things (companies as well as houses) and I felt that Habitat allowed me to enjoy myself while helping those less fortunate than I.
