Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on an affordable home in Clayton, NJ

October 18, 2022

Pitman, NJ (Friday, September 30, 2022): On Tuesday, October 18th at 4:00 pm, Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) will break ground on 48 West Howard Street in Clayton, NJ, funded in part by the Gloucester County HOME Investment Partnership Program. Once complete, the 1,252 sq. ft. home will be sold to a hardworking, income-qualified homebuyer in the GCHFH Homeownership Program.

As a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), GCHFH has a collaborative partnership with Gloucester County, which allows the affiliate to be a recipient of HOME funds that are specific to CHDOs, whose missions are to create affordable housing opportunities for low-moderate income persons.

“With the increased cost of labor and construction materials, GCHFH is very grateful to have the support of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners for this build in Clayton. Working together with the County, a true collaborative partnership, we are able to provide the American Dream to yet another hardworking future homebuyer.” said Ashley Griffiths, GCHFH Executive Director.

As part of GCHFH’s Homeownership Program, homebuyers complete volunteer hours known as “sweat equity”, in which homebuyers help build their home and learn the required skills to become a successful homeowner.

“Gloucester County Board of Commissioners proudly partners with Habitat for Humanity. Expanding our partnership to provide funding for ADA necessities is key to help families achieve homeownership that is customized to their needs,” said Frank J. DiMarco, Director of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners.

GCHFH is actively recruiting skilled volunteers and partners to help build and fund the project. For more information reach out to Megan Varrell, mvarrell@gc-habitat.org.
