Kicking off 2021, Habitat for Humanity dedications 47th Home in Gloucester County
Pitman, NJ (Tuesday, January 05, 2021) – On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, just weeks into 2021, the Abouhali Family who partnered with Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity will receive the keys to homes they helped build alongside volunteers and will begin paying an affordable mortgage. The new home is located at 22 Carpenter Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096.
The Carpenter Street project is the culmination of a community partnership with Harbaugh Cottages. Harbaugh Cottages donated the materials, time, and project management for all stages of the home build. The Home Dedication will be Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity’s first virtual dedication and can be streamed on Facebook Live (www.facebook.com/GloucesterCountyHabitat) at 4pm on Tuesday the 19th.
With the help of volunteers, the family worked hard to build the house that they will call home. “I’ve never owned a home before,” Khalid said. “I want to thank everyone involved for their help. I have met some amazing people and have loved working with everyone.” Prior to receiving their house keys, the family, like all Habitat Homeowners, completed 350 hours of sweat equity, took financial workshops, and saved $4,500 toward closing costs.

This home in Woodbury is hand-up for the Abouhali’s, and an opportunity for them to achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership. This dedication is also a time for us to celebrate our affiliate providing 3 families affordable housing during the 2020 pandemic.”

Since our founding in 1986, Gloucester County Habitat has helped people living in poor conditions build places to call home. Habitat’s work is made possible thanks to the City of Woodbury, who donated the land, PSE&G and 500 volunteers who worked to build a place for Khalid and his family to call home.
