Boston College students spend Spring Break on Veterans Build

Students will join Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity in building a home for Pfc. Ana Toro who previously served with the United States Army.

Pitman, NJ. (March 1, 2023) – For the 10th straight year, students from Boston College will take part in Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity’s (GCHFH) Collegiate Challenge, a program that provides alternative spring break volunteer opportunities. During the 6-day trip, students will spend March 6th through March 9th (8am – 4pm) framing GCHFH’s Veterans Build home located at 403 Deptford Avenue, in the City of Woodbury.

For the 10th year, the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman will house the students and long-standing board members/ GCHFH supporters, the Harris Family and the Roesler Family, who will welcome the students with home cooked meals.

“We are thrilled that we are once again able to host Boston College during GCHFH’s Collegiate Challenge! While most college students take spring break to let loose, these students are selflessly coming to South Jersey to make a huge positive impact on the life of a local Veteran. With the support of our community partners and dedicated volunteers like Boston College students, we are getting closer to completing this Veterans Build in Woodbury,” stated Ashley Griffiths, GCHFH Executive Director.

Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
