Meet Habitat Homeowners, The Souini Family

October 27, 2020
This is their story …
Said Souini and his wife, Narjiss, came from Morocco legally several years ago for the promise of a better life for themselves and their children in the United States. Said works long, late night hours at their local Domino’s, while Narjiss cares for their two school-aged children. Adam, ten-years-old has a passion for soccer and constantly looking out for his five-year-old brother Ayman, who has medical challenges that requires 16 hours of nursing care daily.
Since coming to America, the Souinis have tried to save for a place of their own, but the combination of low wages and Ayman’s medical needs have kept them in bad living conditions. For the last 10 years, the family has crammed into two bedrooms in an old, four-room apartment in Gloucester County. There’s no room for Ayman to do activates with his nurses and no yard for Adam to dream of being an gold medalist soccer star.
Their dreams will come true in a new home.
Finally, ten-year-old Adam will be able to play in his own yard. Ayman will have his own bedroom with hardwood floors and plenty of room for his nurse. And Said and Narjiss will get to enjoy their own private bedroom for the first time since becoming parents. Together with generous donors like you, we made the Souini’s dreams come true.
The one wish Said has had for his family since coming to America will finally come true. They will have a safe, healthy place to call home. Their home will be full of love, laughter and family. A kitchen for Narjiss to cook meals, with the scent of Moroccan specialties filling the air. In this home, his children will run and play freely and memories will be made that will last a lifetime.
Funding for the home was provided by Home Funds through Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Wells Fargo Foundation and individual donations to Gloucester County Habitat. The home was purchased at no-cost and with a zero‐percent mortgage financed through South Jersey Federal Credit Union.
